come to think of it, the local weatherman when i was a kid also hosted a kid’s cartoon show with puppets in it. does anyone from the Niagara Frontier remember “Commander Tom” on WKBW?
I think Letterman broadcast the weather (in Indianapolis, where he worked alongside Jane Pauley), but wasn’t an actual meteorologist. He came to the job through the show biz door, not the science door…
Letterman and Pauley were on different stations, and I’m not sure their medium-market careers overlapped. I was a kid in the area at the time, and I remember her, but don’t recall ever seeing him.

isn’t that how Letterman got his start?

Ah, my mistake. My understanding is that they DID know each other, back in the day…
