Diabetes drugs don’t count. Either Ron Santo should be in the hall of fame, or Brooks Robinson shouldn’t. Santo was at least as good of a fielder as Robinson, and was a far better hitter. Neither one could run well. The only difference is that Baltimore had a deeper pitching staff in those days, so Robinson played in a few World Series.
With (a) the low batting average, (b) the fewer games he would have physically been able to play without using, and (c) the 3rd row homers that would have landed on the warning track..
McGwire without steroids is Dave Kingman in a livelier-ball era.
P.S. And Pujols better not set a career high in homers this season, or else the whispers will start. (Fair or not, LaRussa’s put his franchise player in a no-win situation.)
MLB should be thankful for the McGuire/Sosa home run race. If not for them major league baseball would have gone sayonara after the ‘94-‘95 baseball strike. A large number of fans were turned off to pro baseball but were wooed back by the excitement McGuire and Sosa created.
You are right Jelindley, The 1990’s should not be judged by 21st century standards. Coca-Cola used to contain cocain. Does that make people & athlete who drank it in that long ago era, “users”?
Pujols will never break any home run records, he is too good a player to always swing for the fences. He is just as happy driving in a run with a single or a double.
Miller & Hinds should find some other people to pick on. They aren’t funny.
