What nearly everyone don’t seem to recognize is that most of the expenses of college athletics are fixed. Yes, it costs a lot to provide the dorms, training facilities, stadium, etc. for a top-flight football/basketball/other sports program. However, once these facilities are built they are there and the expense is almost the same whether they are used or not. Think about it: how much is the extra real expense for a university to provide 51 football scholarships instead of 50? Indeed, the extra scholarship may well slightly decrease the “value” of a scholarship, since the real total cost is divided more times. If there is any substantive increase in expense it will come in levels, not units.
none of this changes the fact that some schools earn millions of dollars on the backs of young, often very poor, student athletes and give very little of those earnings back to those who create them. there has to be a more equitable way to divide the pie.
Then the greedy schools weine and cry when star atheletes decide to jump from school early to a draft. Question, would they guarantee the star several million dollars if they were to damage their body while playing for the school, I think not. Pay the athletes what they are worth!

Football pays the freight. The very act of practicing & playing just might shorten “earning potential” by early middle age. NOBODY will care….

Not beginning adulthood six figures in debt like the kids who actually bust their asses to get a degree is more than payment enough.
