Should be a Longhorn as their greed killed the Big-12. Missouri and aTm bolted because of that greed. Having those two teams still in the conference would have ensured a Conference Championship game and the winner would have taken the fourth spot over Ohio State.

Competing effectively within the SEC made Mo and Tex A&M easy bowl selection choices, however. Same for LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Florida, South Carolina, Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee. Only Vandy and Kentucky were left out.

So long as the playoff teams are determined by vote, college football remains a scant step above synchronized swimming.

No matter what system is used, someone will always cry foul. Look at the NFL. Division champs are in the playoffs even if another team has a better record. There is no perfect way to find the champ. College football will never have a true champion. As braindead08 understands, money drives all the selection processes.

OSU should not have leaped up … they did look good, no doubt about it. But they have a larger traveling base and so the bowl will make more money with OSU in.

I get the feeling there are way too many teams to have a regular full season, leading to at best quarter finals, semi finals and final championship or at worse – a NHL type of playoffs.

(nothing wrong with the Stanley Cup playoffs – but could you imagine for College Football – having the top 8 teams in a division, battling over a min, of 4 games per playoff to be division winners and then still have to play the winners of the other divisions to finally get to the final playoff series?.)
