That would be as stupid as the incredibly dumb shoot-out the NHL uses to break ties or what the Double A Eastern League did at their recent All-Star Game and used a Home Run Derby to break a tie. It is no big sin for a game to end a tie, like the NHL did before they brought back OT in 1983. In fact, they should get rid of the shoot-out and bring back OT to what it was before WWII: full strength for ten minutes, and if it still ends in a tie, then so be it.
I just hope that MLB never resorts to a Home Run Derby to break a tie for regular season games/All-Star Game/playoffs/World Series. We should take a cue from the Japanese leagues and have it declared a tie after either three hours of actual playing time or 15 innings, whichever comes first. Are you listening, Rob Manfred?
The most exciting way to end ties in the NHL would be to play 4 on 4, then 3 on 3, then 2 on 2, etc. It would highlite individual skills without the random aspect of a shootout.
I agree with those who see nothing wrong with a sports match ending in a hard fought tie. With the exception of tournament play, if the match in soccer ends in a tie….so be it !
My buddy’s wrestling team used to get together every year for something they called Full Contact Volleyball. All in-or-out disputes were “settled by force.”

For the NBA, maybe awarding the win to the team with the fewest children by the fewest women.

How about rewarding the team with the fewest traveling? Oh wait, they ignore that.

Soccer is only allowed to end in a tie because if you waited for something to happen, they’d still be playing the ’06 Cup.
