Some athletes get some honorary degree for being sporty and if they get an injury that prevents them from playing again, they are stuck looking for work, due to their lack of other skills.
Pro football players are already at near lethal size. Rules are constantly being updated to try to mitigate the potential damage. Take off the steroid and drug limitations and you’ll have to make it ‘touch’ football just to prevent on field deaths.
I’ve always wondered about the the interaction of the bans and medically beneficial and legal drugs. Anything that is legal to prescribe, so long as it is medically prescribed and disclosed should be okay. I know there are some things that are treated this way, but when my diabetic mom can be legally treated with substances an athlete cannot receive, it makes me scratch my head a little. I think the middle ground is a little bit too narrow these days.
