No one will ever convince me the Patriots knew what they were getting when they drafted Brady. He was a sixth-round fling that for totally inexplicit reasons paid off spectacularly. Trying to duplicate his pick is akin to purchasing lotto tickets because your neighbor won the grand prize.

just be glad it is not like baseball. Image a team trying to duplicate selecting Mike Piazza in 62nd round – 1390 overall.

Lightning in a bottle. If you think you’re going to pull another Brady out of the sixth round, you’re delusional. Now it is true that a high, first round pick has a better chance of being a HOF QB, but Joe Montana was drafted in the 3rd round, Bart Starr in the 17th round; while Johnny Unitas and Warren Moon weren’t drafted at all. I say the same thing to my fantasy football league every year: The draft is a crapshoot.

It is also interesting how almost all of the players drafted come from NCAA Div I schools. I remember a Dallas player, a defensive back or lineman I think, who came from some no-name Div III school and kicked butt his whole career. It helps to have a deep scouting network that can find these hidden gems.

The Pats may have just saved their season by drafting Mac Jones ( I could hear Darth Hoodie chortling when the 15th pick came around ).

Likewise the Bears may have just saved Pace and Nagy’s jobs by selecting Justin Fields. ( As dah Bears fans go wild! Sorry, Andy. )

I understand that there’s a disgruntled semi-GOAT from Green Bay who’d be happy to take a gamble in Las Vegas or explore a Rocky Mountain high in Denver. Just call 1-GET-ARODGERS!
