I came close to that. I traded a Carl Yastrzemski rookie card for a 1964 Charley James card, figuring I could always get another Yaz rookie card later with no idea what baseball cards were actually worth back then. Stupid, stupid STUPID trade.

Big reason I got into collecting reprint card sets 30 years ago…I’ll never overpay for them. I got that 1952 Topps Mantle card when I bought the whole reprint set for $200 (by far the most I’ve ever paid for one of those), so it cost me 50 cents.

I saved all of my comics and trading cards.

I wonder how much potential $ I lost between the spokes of my bike?

Wonder how many of those cards were destroyed in bicycle spokes? After the 1969 World Series, being a Orioles fan and 8 years old, I threw away all my Mets cards. Even the Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver rookie cards.

In 1989, I decided to return to collecting baseball cards. I still have almost the complete Topps run for that year, with many duplicates. I only did it in 89. I haven’t looked at them in over 30 years, so I don’t remember if any are worth more than a quarter.

One of the reasons that Mantle card sold for so much was the fact it was in absolutely pristine condition. Apparently, it looked like it was fresh from the printer.

Or your mother got rid of all your baseball cards because it was “time to grow up”.

I had a lot of those old cards, but then a lot of us did.

I have the first Uncle Scrooge comic, Dell 4 colour #386, framed on the wall; and I wouldn’t trade it for any baseball card.
