A scrapegoat would be someone who accidentally causes the team to lose the game and gets shunned by everyone.

Bob Lanier [St. Bona] getting his knee take out by a Villanova player in the NCAA’s, preventing what could have been a great match up against UCLA. In my opinion the Bonnies were a good bet to break Wooten’s streak that year.

Looking at from another angle wouldn’t Wally Pip qualify as the ScrapeGOAT. the headache that caused him to sat for Lou Gehrig was caused by a pair of beanings over the previous 2 days. No Beanings No Headache, No Headache no Lou Gehrig streak

I remember when the Goat used to mean the worse player on the team or the opposite of the hero. This was when Bill Gallo (1922-2011) was the sports cartoonist of The New York Daily News.
