Perhaps there would not be so many strikeouts if called strikes were actually in the strike zone. I watched a game yesterday that had two third strike calls with a ball several inches above the strike zone. I believe umpires like to use their third strike move too much.
Baseball gives the most money to the players with the most fragile rotator cuffs.
When t he old knuckleballer Phil Niekro spent 2 years with t he Yankees,I love watching him make suckers out of the freeswingers. When he got behind in the count, everybody was expecting the knuckleball.
But he’d throw a 75MPH lollipop for a called strike and the homer hitters half his age would y ell—“Hey,is he ALLOWED to do that?”
As much as I like home runs when my team hits them (not so much from the other guys, though) let’s be honest, they’re kind of boring. “Woo, look at that ball go! Now let’s watch the guy jog.” I prefer anything involving baserunning. Those are the most consistently exciting parts of the game.
It amazes me, given the technology exists, that the strike zone isn’t computerized to fit the player with, of course, the Ump still behind the plate to make other calls. It’s as bad as replay. If officials can’t decide within 30 seconds, clearly, it is not irrefutable evidence – call stands.

The way these pampered pitchers are getting injured today, it may be necessary to put the ball on the tee.

Maybe if they actually kept their eyes on the ball, they wouldn’t strike out as much n
