PLODSTo answer everyone’s question read Daddy’s Home for 12/14.Apparently Tony asked people to mention his strip on the sites they visited and maybe he would get enough new readers to move him up in the line.Plods did so, someone complained, and Poof he was gone!He is touch with Bev and posted a statement.
Love the lists they’re all making. Today is our monthly cat food drive at Walmart. My shift is 1-3. We’ll be competing with the bell ringers so wish us luck in getting donations.
@ppyfssPam, my thoughts are with you and Precious. As you get more sleep and the pain recedes, however slightly, your outlook on life will get better. Rest assured that you will not be abandoned by your friends and Santa does not have a load of coal for you.
Oliver, you are just too sweet. Jack and Chesney, however, will definitely not appreciate you fixing the hole in their stocking – they have a plan. Last Rose – cute Christmasy kitties today – even Grumpy Cat. Good Morning Plods – miss you!
That’s our DEAR OLIVER! So kind and thoughtful of others! Oliver, I think you need to switch 2 items on your list around, though! You need to learn to write BEFORE you can writ “I Live Annie” in the snow, Little One!
If you need someone to blame for the whole “Plods incident”, you can blame me if you like. I saw that Plods basically copied the post Tony Rubino put on his own comments section on “Daddy’s Home” and pasted it on pretty much every comic s/he reads, which is a lot, apparently. I posted a reply to that copy/pasted post on a couple of strips (one reply was rather short and pungent, for which I apologize). I did not report Plods to GoComics. I did not raise a stink anywhere other than in a reply to the post here in Ten Cats and to one other strip. Am I sorry for replying? Hell, no! It was insulting to me – a comic strip writer/artist basically says “hey, I can get paid more if I have more subscribers. Why don’t you all go try to recruit me more subscribers?” and idiots go out and do it for them. Maybe if Plods had been smart, s/he’d have just said “hey, check out this strip” like so many others do, but NO, s/he had to copy and paste Tony Rubino’s whole “greedy bastard” screed all over the place.
Here’s an old thread from 2009, but in it, Pab Sungenis of “New Adventures of Queen Victoria” says he got about 71 cents per strip, though he is at a loss for how they calculate payments. http://dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2009/06/13/who-are-the-top-subscribed-comics-on-gocomicscom/
I have always donated to the bell ringers. However, last night I was thinking about this. We don’t have any Salvation Army stores or brick and mortar anything with their name or logo around here. So I had to ask myself “Where will these local donations go?” I’m thinking to the national office.
Susan just now called as I’m typing this. She said everyone is donating to them and we have not gotten a dime or a single can or bag of food. This is not good.
I’m just glad PLODS is back. It’s getting so that I read and delete more than I post. I’m afraid I’ll offend someone (I have, once) or offend GC.Plods didn’t do anything wrong except be “lazy” and cut and paste instead of actually type.I’m sticking to cute cat pictures period!
Thank you Dry, Noreen and LadyKat for your thoughts. Precious ate and drank overnight and peed this morning. I had kept her in a large dog crate overnight and used the remainder of the paper towel roll (one she peed on last night) as the lining in the litter box so she would have something soft if she was in pain. It took awhile to uncover the truck from the 8 in. of snow we got yesterday and then an hour and a half to get to the vets. I am hanging on real tight to the fact that not only is she eating, drinking and peeing, but she mouthed all the way to the vets. I am hoping that this is similar to my episode with PT and is just a bump in the road. I have been stressed about the move and getting off of the meds and being in pain and maybe she is reacting to that. I don’t know when I will hear, but will keep you posted. Thank you again for the good thoughts and please keep her in your prayers and thoughts. She is the only calm and sane thing in my life right now because Buster is upset about all the boxes and such. I need her and she is only just under 8 years old so I have a lot of loving left to give her. I will take Buster out tomorrow as they are both scheduled for shots. I hope I will be able to bring her home then.
That, as they say, is the $64,000 question. As best I can tell from that link (there aren’t many which address the issue, I noticed), agreements are negotiated between the parent company of GoComics (Andrews McMeel Universal) and the cartoonist, so they’re most likely covered by privacy laws. An indicator of the truth of this is that there have been several new strips recently that have debuted on the main page with no “readership building” on Sherpa. BTW, cartoonists pay to be on Sherpa, so even if getting on the main page doesn’t pay, at least the cartoonist doesn’t have to lose money on Sherpa.
Thank you Jessegooddoggy, you must have been typing at the same time I was. Also, thank you Happy, Happy, Happy. I feel so guilty when I’m not packing or doing something to get the move moving along. I do stop because of the pain, but I still feel guilty. I know I need to rest. Just interrupted this post to take a phone call from the vet. Precious is good to come home. She does have a few white blood cells in her urine, but since she is eating and drinking they aren’t even concerned about her numbers. Her kidneys are not tender so they think she is just reacting to the stress. I need to remind myself that I have five full weeks after Christmas before I have to be completely moved. I guess if I do take some time to rest, as long as I get it all done by the end of January, I’ll be fine. The vet just called back and since they have Precious already, they are going to give her the shots that are scheduled for tomorrow today. That way only Buster will have to get out tomorrow. She will be happier and it will be easier on me.Again, thank you all for the well wishes. It just seems that everything is happening all at the same time and it is a little overwhelming.
I know that to be true. I also have a couple of other stories about the Red Cross. I worked with a man whose wife was the head of the office in San Diego for year. Oh, my! The things that went on..
We did get some monetary donations, which is great. We didn’t get nearly the amount of cat food that we usually do but every bag or can helps.
One woman too my name and number and said she had some food that her cat decided she did not to eat any more. She called about 10 min ago and I ran down to her house and got it. She lives just down the road in a different development.
Wow….just read all of last night’s and today’s comments. I am VERY careful about to whom I give $. Queen, you are right that the folks giving to those bell ringers would think twice if they knew that their donations will not be spent locally.I would definitely help out your kitties today…hope donations to your cause picks up.
@Ppyfss: Oh but I am glad to read your latest posts about Precious. Yes, it does seem that both cats are reacting to the changes happening in their home and also to your moods. Please try to relax more…you’ve got lots of time before the final move.
Gweedo addressed the issue of the “greedy bastard” quote – straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. Yes, the subscriber numbers now are huge – I think C&H now is approaching 300K subscribers, and 30K is relatively nothing. Even three years ago 30K subscribers wouldn’t get a strip into the top 50….
Check out what the CEO of Goodwill makes. But I must say, some churches around here are volunteering to ring the bells. But I resent money going to a BigWig so I give all I have to give to RIFA (local…Regional Inter Faith Assoc.) and a Women’s shelter here. Heifer International is a great caring world wide organization which gives all to the cause. I support it each Christmas as a present to myself. They give animals and lessons in care of the animals (even bees, sometime) so a family can have an income and they have to share off-spring with other families.
I refuse to give to the Salvation Army. If you marry someone in the corp you have to convert and give up any job you might have on the outside. If you are the member that married outside the corp and your spouse refuses to give up their “real world” job, you are excommunicated. Any organization such as that isn’t going to get any money from me, no matter where the money goes. It is a religion and they expect to be treated as such. I was shocked and surprised when I found out about the marriage requirement.
