It reminds me of what our dog Jaxon would do. He would sit in front of the fireplace, facing it and warm the front of his body. When that was toasty he’d do a quarter turn and warm the right side, quarter turn and warm the back and last quarter turn to warm the left side. He’s gone to the Rainbow Bridge now but the memory of him warming himself always brings a smile!

That situation calls for an old word “mugwump”. His mug is in the shade and his “wump” is in the sun.
It was used to describe political “fence-straddlers” who could not make up their minds. It seems to apply to cats in many low-hazard situations.
