This describes every night with one little cat that intuitively knows where it shouldn’t be. Slows down the mid-night bathroom dash when you’re stapled to the mattress.
I have one that needs to sleep ON me. If I try to roll over she uses me as a catapult, to jump off the bed. THAT wakes me up completely. Then she comes back and we start all over.
Iggy and Punto often form a cuddle puddle at my feet, but if I get up in the middle of the night, Iggy comes up and pats my face until I pet him before going back to sleep.
Cats will give off “do not disturb” rays even when soundly sleeping. However, I don’t buy it. My comfort for a full night’s sleep is more important than a cat who can be comfortable sleeping in a cardboard box. Of course, I do always have a king-size bed, which leaves plenty of room for cats.
I will now give away a “wise old man” secret of living with cats: the 4 -Watt cat bed heater. They are relatively inexpensive and cats home in on them like heat-seeking missiles. Remember, your cat does not sleep with you because of your personal charm. No, seriously.

My family does it as well, but our cats are nice to us, staying in cuddle range.

I ask my cats’ permission to sleep on my side of the bed. They usually let me.

Unfortunately, I cannot allow Buffy to sleep in my bedroom overnight. She has a tendency to become entangled in my CPAP equipment.
