I was sent to Texas on a “3-day trip” that lasted 30 days, instead. My catsitter called every day to ask when I was going to return. She never saw my cats because she insisted on bringing her dog when she fed them.
Fortunately, my cats were a team. Kirby was a mighty hunter of gophers but never ate his kill. Johnny Depp would eat whatever Kirby brought home. They sent me a “mafia-stye” message that they were both OK: she found a half-eaten gopher in the living room.
When I got home, finally, Kirby, who is normally a very quiet cat, meowed for 15 solid minutes telling me about how he had missed me and how Johnny Depp paid him no mind, even though I had left Kirby “in charge”.
We looked for Johnny Depp for 30 minutes before he came out yawning from underneath the deck.
“Oh, it’s you,” his look said to me. “If it’s really you, you’ll know where the food is.”
An hour later, he had forgiven me and all three of us went for a walk around the neighborhood.
