Hey Pilate, platform shoes went out with Zoroastrianism. Get with it.

Judging by the location of that rope, I think there’s one guard enjoying this a bit too much.

I like the fact that the upper bodies are armoured but the legs are totally vulnerable to attack.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here (said Pilate before I corrected it), or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry. This is the Christ before Caiaphas (link shows his Wikipedia page) scene in The Passion altarpiece. To see the current-location’s image and description of the altarpiece online, in the online Gallery, enter 315 for Inventar Nr., click START, and click the image on the resulting page. Click the image in the new page (Chrome can automatically translate the German) for an enlargement.A different coloration, maybe-click-to-enlarge image of the altarpiece can be found here, along with a description, and 9 accompanying detail images (the last 9 listed here — click an image to enlarge and the for its description). The artist’s (13 pages) Wikipedia page and collection (much more under Subcategories at each level).Fourth, of the 7 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

Wow, what a striking picture. The style looks much more modern than early 16th century.

This example of Holbein’s work almost looks 400 years before its time – sort of an Art Deco flatness and monochrome to it.
