The elephant can’t figure which is worse; being attacked by the tigers or being shot accidentally in the foot by the hunter.

I’m reminded of the “documentary” footage from the 30’s where the “Great White Hunter” filmed his observations in the wild…newsreel quality images of tigers fighting lions, pythons and leopards, etc. Tigers are solitary hunters once they become adults and would never attack an adult elephant. The caption is cute, but the “painting” is a testimony to somebody’s inflated ego and story telling ‘skills’. I love these cartoons, not only for the captions, but for the images that captured moments in the past. I wish he would do more early paintings.

A somewhat enlarged image can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). Again, it is a cropped image. A full, click-to-enlarge image can be found here.Tiger Hunting is privately owned. Many works by this artist (passed away at 79 in 1920 — this painting date is a bit suspect) included animals. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection.Third, of the 3 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here (3 total).

Isn’t this taking place in India.?Check out the headgear of the native guide. Also, aren’t the Asian elephants the ones with the small ears, like the one depicted here? Not important…just saying.
