So this is what Romanian art looks like. I might just skip the museum in Bucharest on my European travels.

A somewhat enlarged image, of this oil on cardboard painting, can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). Again, it is a cropped image (dated signature at lower right missing). A full, maybe-click-to-enlarge image can be found here.Chivuţe De Vorbă is privately owned. It is shown, with that full image, and described, by an auction page (Google translated).Google currently translates chivuţe as chiva. I know of no such English word. In Spanish, it means female goat (clearly not correct). An internet search for its definition, says it means whitewasher or house painter; but, I see no evidence of that activity.Google translates de vorbă as talking, which is closer to the A Small Talk title found here and Gypsy Women Talking title shown by the full image page. The reason I didn’t accept that, is the auction description lists țigănci — Romanian for (female) gypsy, in addition to chivuțe; if gypsy is its meaning, why list it twice? If anyone is fluent in Romanian, please post the correct English title. This is one of several works (Google translated, lot 49 also has this title), by this artist, auctioned there. His Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories).Second, of the 2 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here (2 total).

Chivuţe De Vorbă As close as I can come to any semblance of translation would be Vision in White or Dreamer of White. I base this not on linguistic interpretation so much as an artistic one. It appears that the woman in white is an apparition and not real. Close inspection of the figure reveals a more ethereal aspect than the seated woman.
