Brutus: We're going to visit your great-great-grandfather's grave today. Wilberforce: What happened to him? Brutus: He died while serving his country in World War I. Wilberforce: World War I? Brutus: It was a war so big that involved countries from around the globe! They called it the war to end all wars...sigh...until the next one!

My great-great-grandfather was killed at Shiloh. Some of my taxi customers died in Desert Storm, my liquor store customers in the current conflicts. My flag will fly today for all of them.

I have a great-great-great grandfather who fought in the Revolutionary War, a great-grandfather who fought in the Civil War, a grandfather who fought in WW I – called the Great War, a father and an uncle who fought in WW II, and I was in the Air Force during the Viet Nam War.
Freedom isn’t free.

The great, great grandfather must have been pretty old when he served in WW 1. Brutus looks at least 40 and his great grandfather would have been born in the 1860’s-1880’s. Unless they all had children by age 18.

Viet Nam wasn’t about anybodys freedom. It was about restoring the Military-Industrial complex to it’s power. Remember, if people aren’t dying, they make no money. Even Robert McNamara said in the 80s (Johnson’s Secretary of Defense) that we had no business in Viet Nam. Too bad for the 58,000 plus that died in the conflict. Eisenhower warned us. Now we are killing people everywhere for their greed.

Whoops – my great-grandfather was wounded during the Civil War and came west to recover from his wounds. He lived to the ripe old age of 89 and passed away in 1935 – After living through World War I and the Influenza Epidemic. Born Loser must be a spring chicken if Wilbur’s great-great-grandfather was a World War I veteran. “Decoration Day” originally began to be celebrated as a way to honor fallen Civil War veterans.
