The Born Loser by Art and Chip Sansom for June 22, 2014
Transcript:
The Born Loser by Art & Chip Sansom Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: How do you play the card game "War"? Wilberforce: In "War," we start by divvying up all the cards between us, placing them face down... Wilberforce: Then we each take one of our cards and lay them down, face up, at the same time. Wilberforce: And the card that has the highest value wins that battle. When all the cards have been played, the one who has won the most battles wins the war! Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: So regardless of their suits, a six card beats a five card? Wilberforce: Yes...and a King beats a queen. Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: Chauvinist!

When my son was a toddler we would play this game without the face cards to help him learn his numbers. Instead of WAR I called it MORE.

After the first round, we turn the cards face down and begin again. If there’s a tie, each player turns up another card and the high card takes all. The winner is the one with all the cards. More than two can play.

You left out the best part, when the players have the same card you say I declare war! Laying a card facedown on each syllable until you say war. The highest card on war wins the battle.
