We live in an America where corporations, and those who run or own them, are able to act as if they are above the law…and usually get away with it. The mistake would be to think this hasn’t generally been true. But we are no longer in the era of reforming labor and business ethics laws – we are in an era where the government, instead of serving individuals, blatantly caters to wealth, and laws designed to protect the average citizen from that rapacious juggernaut are flaunted and cast aside…(And, too, it’s a little sad when the comics accept, and blandly play off of that cliché).
As a manager, I had to ensure the workers got a 15 min break in the morning, 1/2hr lunch break and a 15 min break in the afternoon. We were not allowed to have them come in off the clock to prepare everything for work – all that had to be done on the clock – if they were stuck on a call that went past their shift – they got overtime – period – no arguments – - state law…
