It’s not the cough that carries you off…..it’s the coffin they carry you off in.

I wasn’t sick often, but when I was, I didn’t have to exaggerate.

At one of my previous jobs, our boss would “joke” and tell the employees that before “requesting” a sick day, we would need a doctor’s note, a week before the sick day was to be taken!!

Brutus, are you sure Chief would even notice if you just didn’t show up?

Actually Brutus, the boss LIKES it when you call in sick. There is so much more productivity and efficiency in the office when you’re away!

If the Chief cared about his workers, he wouldn’t question is an employee was ill or not. Sharing is not caring, when showing up for work while sick. In Brutus’ case, I imagine the Chief would be relieved because things will run more smoothly. The only drawback, the Chief will not have his favorite loser to place blame on and verbally kick around all day.

I once called in sick the night before I had to be at work at 8 a.m. and the witch said ‘How do you know you won’t be feeling better in the morning?’. I set the alarm for 6 a.m. and then called her and went back to sleep.

I don’t know why Brutus needs to exaggerate his condition to get a day off, I would think Veeblefester cherishes these occasions. After all it’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

After where I worked was bought out, the new company did away with “Sick” leave. It was replaced with “Personal Time,” which could be taken on short notice for any reason. Vacations still had to be scheduled in advance. You could often tell that I was actually sick, because those often turned out to be the sunny, pleasant weather days. The times I just wanted to play hooky the weather quickly changed to cold, rainy or snowy, and miserable.

I’ve never had a boss give me a hard time about calling in sick (wonderful employee that I am) but I always felt funny if you couldn’t hear it in my voice. I think I was afraid they’d think I was faking.

At one place I worked, I opened the office in the morning, so I caught the sick calls from my fellow employees. When the boss came in and I let her know who had called out, she’d always ask, “Did they sound sick?” Of course I just answered, “Yes,” but it bugged the hell out of me.
