That’s why I never bothered with a journal, either.

Anybody else would just quit since it made no sense to keep bothering with it.

Brutus, just make things up and leave it where Mother Gargoyle will find it and read it!!! That should “make her day!!!”

When things were going on in my life, it made a kind of sense. But now that I’m retired, it’s enough to just snark on the occasional comic strip.

    Add detail!

May 30: went to the cemetery with Uncle Ted

June 2: forgot to pick up milk

Jun 5: joined Uncle Ted for an in-home movie experience

June 6: put gas in car

June 7: chatted with Uncle Ted

It’s a good thing Chip keeps a visual diary for you.

that was the second last journal entry i made in 2004, the very last one said “I will update this as soon as anything happens in my life.” I’m still hoping i will make a new entry someday.

One of my sisters has been writing in a journal nightly for years. Is she hoping someday someone will read all those “books” ? I certainly don’t want anyone knowing my daily thoughts.

If your life is boring, it’s your choice Brutus.

Yes, there are the boring, mundane things. But each sunrise is differnt, each sunset, interesting things happen all around you every day. Use the journal to notice them.

Lives aren’t that exciting for most of us. Join the club Brutus. If we do something outstanding or just live an exemplary life, people WILL notice. Let them write their books about you or in your case Brutus, assuming you are a Catholic, canonize you as a Saint. Saint Brutus, that IS catchy…..

Brutus the last thing a Born Loser needs to do is keep a record and relive his failures. It’s sort of like self flagellation.

I went through several failed attempts at journal-keeping. I typically didn’t keep up very well with making regular entries. Those early efforts were eventually jettisoned, because I felt too self-conscious about what I’d written.

I finally started keeping a daily journal almost seven years ago. I reached a point in my life where I felt comfortable enough with myself. Whether anyone ever reads it or finds it of any interest, I can only leave to the whims of posterity. But sometimes I go back and read old entries, and manage to surprise myself.

As for our friend Brutus, he needs to realize it’s a journal, not a date book. Then he needs to start stretching himself a little, creatively. What happened at work — share a good joke with a coworker at the water cooler? Ate dinner — was Mother Gargle there, and were the zingers flying around as freely as the food? And what about Wilberforce? Life is never boring with a kid around.

    Get to work, Brutus.
