Coach tells it like it is. But they’re just children. That’s right, they have their whole lives to get over it.

Actually, the coach said: “If he ran any slower, he’d be running backwards”.

More and more, I’m beginning to take a particular dislike for Wilbur’s coach. As a boy’s coach, he ought to be more positive, not so negative. Wilbur did show up and bring his helmet; that’s something anyway. I once had a player that didn’t know one end of the pitch from the other. The other players didn’t like him, but he always kept a good attitude, dressed well, was at practice on time, and gave it his all. That counts, too.

Wilberforce might not be a star athlete, but at least he’s on the team and at practice rather than playing video games at home.

A good coach would try to figure out where Wilberforce’s talents were and put him in that position. It makes me think of when I started out playing clarinet in the school band. I wasn’t all that good, and my band director suggested that I switch to flute, which apparently was the instrument I was made to play. I’ve always been thankful he did that.

I don’t want to say that Wilberforce is a slow runner but, he runs about as fast as Brutus thinks.

He could have said backwards, so the coach is saying that he needs to improve. Coaches rarely give out compliments to those who need work. Part of the game….

Random musings:

Wilberforce is a chip off the old block. Like Brutus, he appears destined for a lifetime of abuse (but at least he can make a good living starring in a comic strip).

I suspect that Veeblefester, Jr., is the football coach.

I wonder if Veeblefester is the sponsor of the football team. After all they are the Weasels.
