Near where I live is the “body farm” and bodies are placed in different situations to study decomposition. Many have signed up to leave their bodies for them.
I am not donating my body to science. I am donating my body to the English department. I never liked my literature teacher. I can only imagine the look on her face when she opens the box!
I used to work in a medical school. Every medical student is assigned a cadaver for their gross anatomy class. If they didn’t learn to dissect and actually see what things look like and identify them, would they really become good doctors? It’s possible it was 2 students per body – this was a long time ago. The top students had the luck to get the summer job of stripping down hands and feet as they have so very many small parts and are stripped into various different ways. There were filing cabinets with…you don’t want to know. I got sent to that room on a regular basis as part of my job to deliver things or pick them up. I can tell you, the students did treat the bodies with respect and appreciated that people donated themselves so they could learn to be good doctors. Sure, some donations go elsewhere, but this is something I saw firsthand. I am a donor. If anything in me is still usable when I die to be transplanted, that’s first. if not, then send all of me to science. My child knows this and will see that it’s done. I found nothing about the gross anatomy room to be gross and I am not squeamish about donating myself, I just want to be dead first.

Would they want YOUR body, Gladys?

I tried to donate my body to science, but they turned it down. So instead I’ve donated it to science fiction.

I don’t believe it.

That is a noble thing, you should do the same. Mama Gargle in training

Of course they need his body. You think doctors can control their laughter without practice?

You really opened yourself up for that one, Brutus!

As a bad example?

The subtle extra detail today is ingenious. The thought of me donating my dead body some time in the future would also drain all the color out of me!

Poor Brutus. Yes Gladys, science will want it. Medical curiosities need researching!

Gladys had to be a Kamikaze pilot in another life. Straight for the kill. Boom!

Poor ole’ Brutus Thornapple, even science can’t find a use for him.

An exhibit for the true life lessons museum. Besides, be careful. With no access to the calendar of the future, you could be donated tomorrow.

I saw this as a meme and took the joke one step further.
Me: I’m going to donate my body to science.
Science: (donates my body to Goodwill)
Goodwill: (tosses my body in the dumpster)

Good thing Mother G isn’t there. She would have volunteered to make his body ready for the donation then and there.
