Was watching A Christmas Story. It reminded me that the past wasn’t as great as some say it was.

Those are the most memorable.

Confabulation is my right as an octogenarian.

Some of my best stories didn’t happen.

I so relate to Uncle Ted. I’ve always felt that any experience is worthwhile if you get a good – preferably funny – story out of it. Truth is optional.

Those are embellishments for dramatic effect Uncle Ted; something we all do.

And sometimes random memories are cool. I took a tour of the Copper Queen Mine in Bisbee AZ and the guide used to work the mine. One of the other employees I spoke to said he was the best guide because the stories he told differed from day to day ~ he went with whatever tickled his memory.

you can only remember so much at once. :}

Ah yes, the Thornapples, when it comes to family history why live with the boring truth when an exciting lie makes it so much more interesting.

I’m really good at recalling things that didn’t happen (at least, not quite the way I remember)

When ever I read Uncle Ted, I read it as Uncleted…

As you age, it’s not unusual to remember the past like it was yesterday, the problem, unfortunately, is remembering yesterday.

You’re doing better than me Ted, I can’t remember the real ones, or if the real ones were real.

Whenever we get to remembering the prices of things long ago, we should remember everything was lower back then. In 1949, when I was born, gasoline was around $0.27/gal. and yearly income averaged at $3100. I may have earned $3100 just mowing yards when I was 16.

UncleTed has a vivid imagination….it keeps him young!

Someday Brutus will really appreciate the time he has spent getting family history from Uncle Ted. I know he already appreciates their time together. Uncle Ted is such a calm, stabilizing factor in Brutus’ life.

Sadly, I remember it all, the bad and the good. It’s a mixed blessing. You can’t lie to yourself. Seems like Uncle Ted has it right though….

A friend once said to me, “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.”
