Much has been written on why the bug is facing to its left when everyone else is facing to their right. Some believe that it’s Scully’s wry commentary on the American political system.
Personally, I’ve always thought that the fact that the bug is in motion, while everyone else is stationary, represents the Black Plague, the scourge that wiped out everyone, across political, gender, and even species boundaries.
