old Neil was chatting with houston about the appearance of the surface of the moon while still standing on the LEM, his “that’s one step….” thingie was said after he stepped onto the surface

interesting that the inscription left on the moon talks about coming in peace for all mankind…..and at that same time, the U.S. was bombing and killing people in vietnam.

I’m just saying…. it was a bit on the contradictory side

Now that you mention it, since the evil Soviet empire collapsed, we don’t seem to have much of a problem with the “commies” in Cuba anymore. Or those in China even.

Could be the military-industrial complex, the Neo-cons and the Christianists have all found a new enemy to demagogue?

“Useless”?? The PC you are sitting at writing that statement on, the heart monitors in ICU wards, your cell phone – ALL are direct descendants of the R&D that went into the moon landing. The “useless spending of our livlihoods” CREATED the technology that supports whole new generations of livlihoods today. Or did you think we actually backwards-engineered it all from a crashed UFO?

The Moon program also gave us heart monitoring, which has saved many lives, including some who were close to me.

The money didn’t go to the Moon. It went to well paid union jobs in the aerospace industry. Now, it would be cheaper & easier to go robotic, but that’s not going to get some of our eggs into another basket. We need to learn to live there before the next dinosaur killer comes.
