    Wild turkeys can fly, at least for short distances. I was camping in Cypress Hills years ago and was awakened by an odd sound that apparently was wild turkeys, introduced there in the 1930s. They roosted in trees when they wanted to rest.

    Wild turkeys are nasty birds. Mean and belligerent. If you see them, turn in the other direction and walk away. If they see you, get ready to confront them, because they will only back down if they lose a fight.
