Rory, move in with me, you will never have to worry about winter again, and I’ll teach you how to surf.

Up here in the PNW my forecasts are about as accurate as the weatherman’s, but when I spent my winters in southern Texas they could predict the weather two weeks in advance and be spot on.

Weathermen throw darts at a weather board - at least that’s what it seems like.

On Thursday, the forecast was for possible snow showers. On Friday, the forecast was snow showers with 1-2 inch accumulation. On Saturday, the forecast was 3-4 inches of accumulation. On Sunday, we got 14 inches of snow in Southeast Virginia.

Spring comes, winter goes. That’s a dangerous cycle…we’ll have to kill it. Remind me to kilocycle……

Those pesky eastern coastal storms! It is especially hard to predict the break lines for the snow.

Saucy got 14 inches in SE VA, it snowed in Richmond, (Central VA), but we got nothing in Northern VA as the storm just far enough off the coast to clobber everyone on the eastern shore of MD and northward.

Our county closed schools one year because there was 15 inches of snow in Leesburg, the county seat, but 11 miles away in Sterling, we didn’t even get a snow flurry.

With challenges like that, I think the weather forecasters do a pretty good job.

Of course, seasons and weather are two completely unrelated things, but you can’t expect rams and lambs to understand such things…

Rory would probably be impatient on a long car drive, too.
