That only works if you eliminate what the middle managers were doing. Otherwise, the work gets transferred to someone else, usually without compensation, or important stuff doesn’t get done at all until there is an “oh, crap!” moment. I’ve been a worker bee, middle manager, and senior level manager and seen the disastrous consequences of flattening an organization without doing process improvements first.
