Beetle Bailey first appeared in our local paper in the 1950s and I thought it was so funny. In 1962 I joined the Army and found out how real parts of it were! (Ft. Gordon, Ga. 1963, we had an E-4 that would have made Beetle look like a workaholic!)
He will be missed, but at least he succeeded in his life goal of creating a much-beloved American classic that is still popular and will remain so for years to come, so I know he died fulfilled.

A very appropriate tribute for a man who created a cultural icon. So much pleasure for so many years. Thanks Mort.
