Oh, I remember those days! —-At least now in my Florida gated community, (almost) everybody is retired. But we still have to deal with the sound of annoying neighbors on the PickleBall court early in the morning. Well, at least my HUSBAND does. I’m up and out the door by 6:30 headed to the skating rink. LOL.
Warming up your car unattended is illegal in lots of places, it is just rarely enforced. But if you really want to be that guy a quick check of local laws is just a Google away…
And Lennie can do one of his stoopid jobs from the warmth of his own home and does not have to warm up his stoopid car, just his beverage. Really, that’s smart.
I’m surprised Lennie can hear that with all the windows closed, modern cars are quiet and have a low idle speed. Most neighbors who warm up their vehicle for 900 hours have a diesel truck.
Ah-hahahaha! Yessirreebob. There’s always some redneck nearby who works on his neolithic truck all weekend but never manages to install a new muffler. Start up begins at 5am and he finally drives away at 8. The only reason his beast doesn’t get stolen is because it’s such a POS. He couldn’t pay a thief to take it.
That’s crazy talk! I live on the northern plains of Saskatchewan (say that 3 times fast) and I don’t do that. If it’s cold enough I have my block heater plugged in, but it has to be lower than -20C overnight. I start my car, I scrape off the frost, I make sure I remove the extension cord (putting a new plug on the car is a pain in cold weather – been there, done that), and drive to work. That’s usually a max of 5 minutes, even with my having to climb up into my passenger door to scrape the windshield (I’m short).
I moved up here, kind of expecting that I’d have a buffer = too rural to expect it wouldn’t happen. Of course, my bedroom window was over the top of the next door neighbor’s driveway – who let his car idle forever despite not having a job. Not to forget the folks who use fireplaces – but don’t understand (something I learned so young I can’t remember when I learned it) that unless you really want to make smoke signals, your wood needs to not be green (cured for a year!), and not be wet. And now, after no rain since the end of January, CalFire is doing control burns. I’d have gotten less smoke moving to a bar in Nevada…

There’s been one of those in every neighborhood where I’ve lived. Usually at 4am, with a bad muffler.

Maybe someone can suggest that he warm up the car in the garage with the door closed. It’ll be faster that way.

Jerry is probably the CEO of an oil company and doesn’t care how much gas he uses.
