A coyote in the daytime is likely a sick coyote. They’re nocturnal. Except in populated areas – there were a lot visible during the day on the San Mateo Peninsula. People would let pets out during the day; they would also often put out food for cats, and some predators would discover there was less competition during the day. There were several with mange, or possibly distemper. No matter what, not something to tangle with!

Try getting someone to enforce the leash law on coyotes. Nobody is going to volunteer to leash – that I know of. Not I.

I see a little wildlife on my morning walks but I’ve only seen a couple of coyotes
There are a lot of rabbits, I’ve seen hawks and owls go after them but not a coyote
That’s one of those things that you want to see and at the same time you don’t want to see it

Not seeing them can mean they just watching you… very closely. Don’t limp.

Where I previously lived, the coyotes can out both day and night.
