I have had influenza once when much younger. It is something you do not want to go through. It took me six weeks to get back on my feet. I have not missed getting a flu shot since. The flu shot does not give you the flu, but it does take two weeks to immunize. In the meanttime you may get it from an outside source or have a slight reaction.
My niece had always been healthy, had never gotten a flu shot, was a mom to young kids—and got the flu. This was a year or two before covid. Ended up with sepsis and spent a month in the ICU, months doing hyperbaric chamber episodes to try to save her limbs and ended up only losing her toes, part of a foot, and her fingers past the middle joints. But she’s alive and gets to raise her kids. She’s a crusader now for people getting their flu shots.
I had my first flu shot in 1991 and was sicker than I would be if I had the flu. Second shot in 2020 and yearly since with no ill effects and no flu. Last year got shingles, tetanus, Covid booster, pneumonia and flu shots all in a two week period. Arm hurt like a gunshot wound for a few hours and then weak for about 4 hours and nothing more after that.
