Mr. Wiki tells me that the winged staff with two snakes is the caduseus, the symbol of Hermes/Mercury which is incorrectly but widely associated (esp. in the US) with the unwinged, single-snaked Rod of Aesclepius, the actual symbol for medicine. Someone should tell the kid.

It’s worse than you think- I grabbed some bag or receipt from a local pharmacy to take a look at the symbol when i wrote the cartoon. Gah! I oughta be hanging out with the Wikis more, I reckon.

I can relate to this strip a lot because I had to have vaccinations a few years ago and I badly wanted to hide too.

But no use… Just had to be brave and get it over with.

RUN EDDIE RUN

Took my mom and a nurse to get me by the arms to hoist me toward the table. I was a wirey little guy, though. Planted my feet on the edge of the table, screaming the whole time. I can only thank God that thirty-odd years later, my own kids didn’t do the same stuff. They’re trying to kill me with DIFFERENT stuff.
