I had a similar reaction but with the CORRECT blame: I saw Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and then I read the original.I couldn’t believe how much Disney had butchered Kipling’s story.
My step son made the same comment about the movie M.A.S.H. He thought it was based on the series. I had to explain to him which came first. Just the same old arguement….which came first…..the chicken or the egg.
One summer I read Bram’s Dracula and Shelley’s Frankenstein. After watching so many of the movies, I was curious as to the origins. (I was around 12 or 13).
I still do that on occasion. If a movie or TV series intrigues and I know it was based on a book – I get the book. .Some things don’t translate well to the big or small screen. (some of Stephen King’s stories). I sure there must be something out there better on the screen than the book. ….. Any suggestions for that?

Not only that! Now they’ve made a book of “The Lord Of The Rings”, too! Talk about milking the franchise!

Try reading “Wicked.” Nothing like the play.
