The usual name calling, hash slinging, fact altering, past remaking, all in the name of good clean fun at the taxpayers expense.

Where does elementary school finish in May? High school and elementary school up here (in Ontario) don’t finish until the end of June. Just wondering if it’s only in the comic strip world or if there are some places in the States where school ends early.

When I began teaching in the late 60s, schools ended on Memorial Day week and began again after Labor Day. That’s why the best three things about teaching were June, July and August. Then they began adding a day or two each year- so you hardly noticed them. Now, school’s out the second or third week of June and teacher meetings, required room prep etc. start as early as the second week of August.

Politics is half bullying and half persuading, at least once you have a vote in DC. No, actually, it’s 1/4 of each and half begging for money so you can keep that vote.

I see.

School’s out here. But it also starts mid-August now, and I’d rather go back to mid-June.

But this was a priceless strip—well done!

Now we just need to cancel Congress!

Growing up I lived in NY and school let out in June. When I was teaching in Florida it let out in May, so in the US it depends on what part of the country you’re in.

I read a friend’s phd thesis on the development of the 2 party system in the US. I think his goal was to obfuscate as much as possible so the profs on his thesis committee wouldn’t call him on his BS, and if they did, he could reinterpret the analysis on the fly. Personally I think it’s a numbers game that’s intrinsic with our “majority rules” voting system. His argument boiled down to cannibalization of third party ideologies by the two dominant parties as a means of survival. Potato, patahto.

Schools in this part of the country let out, when possible, before Memorial Day (Many families leave for vacation then, and the uproar when school meets again for a day or two after Memorial Day is awful) That being the case, school also ends for The Buckets around the same time. I don’t assume that schools all around the country let out simultaneously, and for all the poor confused youngsters who leave school later than Toby and Eddie, I apologize. Now, when Toby and Eddie go back to school in August, I don’t wanna hear any bafflement about when schools start up again, okay?

Here in Southeast Virginia, schools start the day after Labor Day and end mid-June. Lots of tourism in the area and that lets the teenagers keep those summer jobs while the tourists are here.

I don’t know about other states but here in Alabama school just got finished in late may.
