I'd sure like a surprise party. It's not your birthday. Much bigger surprise that way! Except now, we've talked about it, so you wouldn't be surprised. I guess we'll just have to wait until you haven't thought about it for so long that you'd be surprised. Might take awhile. Darn! Oh, but maybe now that you've said what you did, it'd be an even bigger surprise. Oh no! You're not still thinking about it, are you!? Mmm! I don't believe that work. Surprise!

Reminds me of an old joke about an Asian guy working on a construction site and put in charge of the “supplies.” You can probably imagine the rest of the gag, or at least the punch line.

When I turned 50 I made it clear that I had no desire for a party and that meant absolutely NO surprise party
Dont see much point to making a big deal about birthdays at my age, hoping I’ve convinced everyone to forget about it
Next year is 55, I am bit worried they my still try to sneak a party in

I don’t advertise it, but if there’s cake I’m not turning it down.

On the cartoon show “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” Blue (the main imaginary friend) was always throwing surprise birthday parties for his creator/best friend Mac on every day but his birthday because it would be a bigger surprise. The only day Mac felt safe was on his birthday, which was why Blue was able to surprise him with a party on that day.

I’m often puzzled by people wanting to celebrate getting older.
If we all got younger, I would certainly be celebrating!

Hey—getting older might not be ideal, but it sure beats the heck out of the alternative.
