Only a few are doing it because of a trauma (and only some of them would benefit with counseling, Cyborg is a hero because he no longer fits anywhere else), some do it because they get a kick out of it (e.g. Iron Man, Green Arrow) and others do it because they feel like they have to do something if they have the power to do it (e.g. Spider-Man, Captain America, Superman).
