I know it’s highly unlikely that anyone will read my comment here, since this strip is from the 4th and today’s the 6th. So hey, I may as well vent..I think this gag is extremely bad form and I can’t believe Mr. Gammill could possibly have put more that a split second’s thought into it. I’ve not seen “Silver Linings Playbook” but I have been hospitalized (aka I’ve been in a loony bin) in order to treat symptoms of my bipolar disorder a couple times in the distant past. And the female patients there are neither more likely, nor less likely, to be pretty girls than they would be in any other kind of hospital..We gals in the loony bin? Forgive us if we don’t feel like dolling ourselves up to be pretty for our fellow patients or visitors. We kinda have other priorities, you see.
Caldonia — I did not mean to offend. I was trying to make the observation that in the movies people with mental disorders are so darn attractive. And the “loony bin” was a shout-out to the old timey cartoonist Milt Gross, but probably should not have don it.
Thanks for replying! I think the reason people with mental disorders in movies are attractive is because, well, the actors who play them are attractive. Myself, I’d rather watch a character actor play a part instead of some dreamboat just about every time.I guess “Silver Linings Playbook” must have something going for it as it’s been nominated for so many awards, and I’m sure the lovely Jennifer Lawrence must have done a fine job. Perhaps I would’ve been less defensive if I’d actually seen the thing. But this touched a nerve. Anyway, it was kind of you to reply to my outburst!

yes, but she may be dismayed to find that Jack is not quite what he used to be

Careful, Dean – you might wind up in the wing where the women look like Jack Nicholson.
