I quit a 3-pack a day habit after my son was born - there is no way in the world I could afford two cartons every week now (of course, where could I ever find a spot to SMOKE 3 packs a day in this day and age - that was about 15 years ago)

I stopped smoking around 1977 (about 11,680 days ago.) I was smoking 2 to 3 packs a day. They cost probably about $1.50 a pack back then.

So if the price remained at $1.50 right up to today, I would have saved anywhere from about $35,040 to $52,560. Of course since the price has gone up so much over the years, I’ve probably saved well over $100,000 so far.

I know, there’s nothing worse than an ex-smoker…but it sure made sense to me to stop just from a financial perspective. And don’t forget, you have paid income taxes and social security on those dollars even before you go to the store. How many hours of my working life would gone up in smoke? I’ll take the cash.

Darwin was a proponent of smoking as it was perfectly in line with his theory of “survival of the fittest”. If you smoke, you won’t be fit. Smoking helps weed out the idiots of the human gene pool.

If that offends you, then Darwin’s other, lessor known theory, of “You smoke, you choke, then you croak” may be easier to understand. If neither of these theories is understandable, then smoking has already killed you.
