Yeah, let me tell you, those cigarettes sure kill pigeons. Never mind all the auto, bus, and truck exhaust in big cities, not to mention exhaust from restaurants, heating furnaces and such. That little bit of cigarette smoke is what’s killing them.
Until you mentioned it I never even thought about smokers getting smoke breaks. As a life long non-smoker I’ve put up with inhaling 2nd hand smoke for decades at the office, on planes and trains, and at home from my parents and sibling. Now it is pitiful to see the pigeons having to inhale that bleeep in their outdoor environment.
I quietly take a swig from my flask a few times a day, you can hardly smell it. I would not want to endanger my coworkers health by smoking, I just have a happy little buzz while I work.
Funny - I can remember when every grocery store had stand-up ashtrays all through the aisles and one at every checkout stand - EVERYONE (practically) smoked while shopping (the grocery stores were the first to have smoking eliminated by law, at least in California). Every restaurant table had ashtrays, doctors’ offices had ashtrays (and the doctor would smoke while discussing your health) and the TV airwaves were full of beautiful young people having the time of their lives because they were smart enough to smoke Camels, or Lucky Strikes - or maybe Herbert Tareyton, or Kools, or Pall Malls, or Kents, or Salems or Parliaments, or maybe Benson & Hedges, or “Call for Phillip Morris” with Johnny the Bellhop, or Old Golds or Chesterfields, or Newports or Marlboros, or…

My dad is 78 years old, smokes about a pack a day (cut down from 2 packs when he was younger) and his respiration is that of a 35 year old according to his doctor. Of course, my dad played racquetball for something like 20 years and still works out 3 to 5 times a week, so maybe it’s something about not exercising the smoke out of your lungs that leads to cancer, emphysema and such. My mother, who was also a smoker, had lung cancer was treated for it, had it return 10 years later, and died of a heart attack. So I agree that cigarette smoking is a factor in respiratory and cardio-pulmonary ailments, but it’s not the only factor.

Well you guys killed one pigeon and forced another one to wear a gas mask. I’m surprised the pigeons haven’t tried to push you off the ledge.

Yeah, how come stupid smokers get more breaks than non-smokers?????? I used to smoke, gave it up 35 years ago……….

Yukoneric, personally I’m entitled to two 15-minute break per day, but I take six 5-minute breaks instead.

Forget health. I quit 32 years ago when I realized the power they held over me.
Nothing will control me like that.

Open letter to all smokers:
When you are standing just outside a public entrance, please stay downwind of the doorway.

I couldn’t resist adding this - hope it’s not too big…

Why aren’t they publishing that new study that shows second hand smoke is an irritant? Trial lawyers got too much invested?
