Yeah it was a bit strange. I went to get a new library card after I had retired from the military and returned stateside and the librarian acted and looked at me like I was about to rob and assault her. Not sure about people these days, or maybe it is just us Americans. Been to many countries outside of the U.S. and we do tend to be unique in some crazy ways.

Are you going to tell your wife about the Patriot Act and libraries? She seems to have figured it out on her own but remains unable to fathom the consequences of walking into that den of revolution, a public library. Oh, while I’m here: Read Banned Books.
“Section. 501. (a)(1) The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation or a designee of the Director may make an application for an order requiring the production of any tangible things (including books, records, papers, documents and other items) for an investigation to protect against international terrorism or clandestine intelligence activities, provided that such investigation of a United States Person is not conducted solely upon the basis of activities protected by the first amendment to the constitution.”

This is one of the reasons why libraries are disappearing. New member are discouraged from joining.

Not in my experience. They are neither disappearing, nor are they as difficult to get a card for as the strip implies. NV, WI, MO, and OK have all been lovely.

Though I see your nickname is WestNYC. You couldn’t pay me enough to live in a major metropolitan area like NYC. Seething is just one of the first words that comes to mind….
