I always impart to the kids how amazing worms are to the garden, flowers, whatever is in their yard. I am not sure if the worms appreciate it though, as now the kids uproot the worms to dash them across the yard before depositing them in the garden. Sometimes in hastily dug holes, the former contents of which are dumped over the poor worm. :{
