My girlfriend from recent years just died yesterday. I have many, many photos of her, some were fixed, some were not, but in all, she was quite pretty.
I have a distant relative, a young woman of about 21, who I have only met on a couple of occasions but I follow her on FB. She is constantly whining about meeting guys and then getting “ghosted.” She was asking on FB this week for someone to tell her why this is happening. I refuse to hurt her feelings, as much as she needs to hear the truth, I just won’t.
All of her photos on FB are so heavily manipulated to the point she is barely recognizable . In her posts, she is absolutely stunning, I mean drop dead gorgeous. In reality, she is the spitting image of her mother and they both are so pitifully ugly that, with one glance. they could knock a cat off a gut wagon. No wonder she gets ghosted. Also, she is incredibly narcissistic and posts non-stop in revealing clothes and, trust me, she does not have the body to pull that off. I really pity her.

But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.” Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
No, but even the Victorians had tricks to make their photos more flattering. It’s quite interesting. And that’s not touching all their clothing tricks: for example, padding the bust & hips to make a lady’s waist look tiny, and connecting sleeves in such a way to encourage good posture.
