The Immaculate Conception is the Catholic belief that Mary was conceived by her parents through a kiss. This way, the Catholics could explain that she was an unblemished woman, untouched by sin, worthy to bear the Son of God. The conception of Jesus is known as the Annunciation…don’t feel bad, I always got them confused also…
By the way, this is a reference to the Virgin’s appearance at Fatima, where thousands of people who were soaked in rain had watched the sun “dance in the sky” and were dried of, sparking an interest in that little village…
‘Fraid you’re still a little confused, captainedd. The dogma of the IC is only that Mary was free from Original Sin from the moment of her conception. We assume that she was conceived through the usual method.
The miraculous conception of Jesus is usually referred to as the Incarnation. The Annunciation is the announcement by the angel to Mary that she would conceive.
Thank you for clearing that up. I kept hearing various explanations, so I was in perpetual confusion about all the little details. I just remeber the most important thing, that salvation wouldn’t be possible if either one of them hadn’t done what they had done…
The finer points of doctrine make outsiders think; “That’s just silly.” It comes dangerously close to worshiping certain people, which would have made DaVinci’s heir a major threat. Jesus could have told you, that’s not what the bush told Moses.
