On YouTube there are videos of cats/kittens purring. I took the audio of a long one, cut it to an hour, and play it in the background on a loop at work. Just loud enough to hear, and it is very relaxing (and covers all the computer/fan noise).
Where I live now is very quite, so I don’t use my white noise machine. At a previous house, when one stopped working, I tuned the radio between stations, which worked great for a while… til one night when I was blasted awake by a bible-thumper. I bought a new machine the next day…
