In the last couple of years I have been catching up on long-delayed reading of classics such as “Little Women”, “Frankenstein”, “Huckleberry Finn”, etc., and I started a list of phrases that in 19th century spelling had not yet coalesced into single words: to-day, some one, out doors, for ever, what ever, worth while, etc. Somehow (some how?) “every body” didn’t make it to my list.
