When we lost power for 4 days a few years ago one of the few people to have power restored quickly was the CEO of the power company. Then they had the chutzpah to ask for an increase in rates, which got turned down.

Where I’m living now there have been more power outages in the last eight years than I went through in the entire rest of my life.

Where I live the only time we lose power is when the snow or wind puts a tree into the lines. Not much anyone can do about that. Those guys have to fix problems in weather that most people wouldn’t even leave the house, except, of course, go get cigarettes.

I suggested to a self-styled automotive guru who was touting the all electric Nissan Leaf that maybe all the environmentalists who want to buy one should factor in the cost of a backup generator if they live in an area where power outages because of weather are not uncommon. ”Not to worry“ was his response, ”all the people who buy Leafs (Leaves?) will have AT LEAST one or two regular cars as backups.“ Way to reduce the old carbon footprint guys.
