BTW, are you snowed in up there? We just got another 7 inches on top of the 2 snows from last week (Western Massachusetts). I can only imagine that it’s got to be worse in Vermont!
This is dated information, since I worked in the Dallas main post office in the early 1960s, but I never heard the term either. We didn’t get vehicles but had to take the bus to our routes. One bus driver accused us of “putting a good pack mule out of work” and we really couldn’t argue the point. After all, Supai, AZ, got real mules for their postal route.
